Idiom Presents "Taking An Open Global Web Architecture Approach To Globalization" At Iqpc Web Site Globalization Conference
New Open Global Web Architecture Establishes Standards and Best Practices for Content Synchronization Across Multiple International Sites and Languages
Waltham, Massachusetts, USA - May 22, 2006 - Idiom
® Technologies, Inc. (Idiom), the leading independent provider of scalable software solutions for accelerating and optimizing globalization initiatives, today announced it will be discussing its new Open Global Web Architecture at the IQPC Web Site Globalization Conference, May 22-24, 2006 in San Diego. Based on commonly accepted open standards, the goal of the Open Global Web Architecture is to provide a framework for how companies should think about and approach translation and localization in association with Web site development and management.
While technologies and best practices for internationalization are widely available, few standards exist for dealing with global content synchronization and management. In response, Idiom has introduced the Open Global Web Architecture framework, which will be the basis for the presentation by Idiom Founder and CTO Eric Silberstein taking place on Tuesday, May 23 at 11:15 a.m. PDT. His session, "Taking an Open Global Web Architecture Approach to Globalization," will address the complex nature of creating and maintaining high quality global Web sites and applications. By establishing the Open Global Web Architecture as a collaborative industry standard, companies of all sizes can easily develop and maintain a sophisticated multinational online presence, without years of experience.
"In ongoing discussions with customers, partners and industry influencers, we realize many companies talk about establishing standards around global Web site content development, however, few have the time to devote to development or know where to find the resources to avoid reinventing the wheel related to launching even simple sites with multiple regions or languages," said Eric Silberstein, founder and CTO, Idiom Technologies. "Idiom has based the Open Global Web Architecture on its expertise building proven, widely adopted globalization solutions and experience contributing to other industry standards, such as DITA. This is truly an altruistic endeavor around which we hope to establish productive industry partnerships that will support globalization goals of companies of all sizes."
The Open Global Web Architecture provides several specific features and benefits including a systematic way to combine global, regional and local content; a mechanism for synchronizing content from any region/language to any region/language; minimal extra burden on site developers and Web producers (no new special skills or tools are required to use the architecture); and an architecture that is compatible with most content management systems.
For interested partners and users who are not able to attend the IQPC Web Site Globalization conference, Idiom has developed a resource site to help promote this standard,
http://www.idiominc.com/ogwa, where users can download a whitepaper and view associated demos and guidelines. The Web site provides a reference implementation that illustrates how a fictional company, eGate Computers, applies this architecture to its multinational Web site. The reference implementation is an open source project, made available under the Apache License Version 2.0, and uses commonly accepted standards including Java, JSP and Tiles. Depending on the Web architect's goals, maturity of existing Web site and current content management infrastructure, sample software and reusable code from the Open Global Web Architecture can be downloaded and used immediately in their entirety, or as specific concepts.
