Idiom Secures $17 Million In Third Round Funding

Banc of America Securities LLC, Eastman Chemical Company, and Oracle Join Current Investors in Financing Innovative Enterprise Globalization Firm

Waltham, MA - April 2, 2001 - Idiom Technologies, Inc., the leading provider of enterprise globalization solutions, today announced the close of the company's third round of funding in the amount of $17 million. Seven major investors funded the round, including new backers Banc of America Securities, Eastman Chemical Company, and Oracle Corp., as well as current investors Greylock, JAFCO Ventures, North Bridge Venture Partners, and Sigma Partners. The funding will enable Idiom to continue its aggressive product development and global expansion. This latest round of funding, which closed earlier this month, brings Idiom's total investment capital to $37 million.

"Idiom's partnerships with such high-caliber companies validate the market's increasing commitment to the globalization issue," said Idiom President and CEO Fred Lizza. "In addition, each of the new relationships will yield unique benefits for our company. Our association with Oracle is expected to allow us to take advantage of joint marketing opportunities, which will assist us in establishing WorldServer as the leading software in its class. Our association with Banc of America Securities will offer access to some of the premier software analysts in the industry and their coverage. Finally, the new affiliation with Eastman expands on an already strong customer relationship and offers Idiom an entry point into the global process industries."

Idiom provides software, strategy, and services that allow companies to globalize their enterprises quickly and efficiently in a rapidly changing world market. Idiom WorldServer™ is Web infrastructure software for globalization that enables companies to develop and maintain multilingual, multicultural Web sites as cost-effectively as possible. It automates and synchronizes multi-site maintenance and streamlines business globalization processes, allowing Idiom customers to reduce the cost of international site maintenance by up to 50 percent. Idiom's customers include multinational companies such as Adobe®, Eastman Chemical Company, General Electric, MasterCard, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Travelocity™, and Xilinx, Inc.™

"As a worldwide, multi-faceted organization, we're fully aware of the intricacies and difficulties in managing a global enterprise," said Matt Mosman, senior vice president, Oracle Corp. "We look forward to helping Idiom fully realize its tremendous potential as a preeminent globalization solution."

The business demand for effective multilingual and multicultural Web sites - both international and domestic -- is becoming more critical, fueled by the changing demographics of Internet users. According to the analyst firm Technologic Partners, the United States will account for less than one-third of the Web's 602 million users by the end of 2003 (ComputerLetter, November 13, 2000). New figures from the 2000 census show that Hispanics now make up 12.6 percent of the U.S. population, exploding 58 percent since 1990.

"It's becoming increasingly clear that providing customers, business partners, and employees with a meaningful and effective online experience regardless of language, location, or culture is no longer a luxury, but an imperative," said Nikos Drakos, analyst at Gartner. "We're seeing a dramatic increase in the number of clients for whom enterprise globalization is a high-priority business objective."

Idiom has demonstrated continuous momentum since closing its previous round of funding one year ago. According to Lizza, "In the past year our sales, our organization, and our customer base have all grown dramatically. Based on every metric, Idiom is the preeminent practitioner of enterprise globalization."
